Happy Birthday to my Mom!

February 28, 2009

Mom!

Growing up, my mom always told me I was creative, and always encouraged that side to come out. She did that for all of us.

One year she gave me a science fair kit for Christmas and didn’t yell at me when I strung up wire all over the house and out the door to create a home-made AM radio.

She saved the local papers for me so I could cut out the photos and make captions, even if it ended up with stacks of papers, cut-outs and bits of paper all over the house.

She took photos when we staged a bizarre home version of the Olympics.

Finally, she even (albeit reluctantly) modeled for teecycle.

In short, my mom has always made it seem perfectly acceptable — even special — to be weird and different. And without that deeply ingrained in me now, there’s no way I ever would have had the guts to start something weird and different like Teecycle.

So thanks, Mom. Happy Birthday!
