My new new shirt

February 28, 2009

Obviously, I don’t invest in new non-used shirts very often. Duh. I traffic in used shirts.

I made exceptions exactly twice in the last year.

One of them I bought during the presidential campaign. The other was this:

Brian tipped me off to this shirt.

The backstory:

I run Bridges @ St. Paul’s School, a non-profit education program that helps students from under-served communities in East Baltimore develop skills and aspirations for success.

I am writing to share an exciting project we have undertaken that could (a) build a solid college fund for one of our students and (b) provide significant financial resources for Bridges.
The project revolves around a t-shirt that commemorates Barack Obama’s Inauguration. The depiction of President Obama was painted by a seventh grade student in a Bridges art class. The shirts cost $12 each (plus shipping) and have been widely popular in Baltimore and D.C.
After clearing out 400+ shirts locally, we got some exciting local press. The Baltimore Sun wrote about the shirt on its education blog. For every t-shirt we sell, $1 will be put into a college fund for Jazzmine (our seventh grade artist). The balance of the proceeds will go toward financing the Bridges Program.

If you are interested in purchasing a shirt (or many shirts), please go to our website, www.bridgesobamashirt.com.

Please pass this along to your friends as well. It’s a cool shirt and the funds will support a great student and a worthwhile organization (though I guess I am biased – I am the director).

Speaking of supporting inner city youth programs, If you’re in Milwaukee, help raise some money with Lakefront Brewery beer and pizza on Sunday, March 1st. Click here for info.

Also, this Led Zeppelin shirt is still available, with 100% of the funds going to the Penfield Children’s Center in Milwaukee.

Now here’s a Teecycle Elvis shirt:
